Springfield XDS Review

The Springfield XDS is a short recoil-operated locked breech striker-fired semi-automatic pistol. The XDS incorporates the same propriety features of the XDM series while boasting the new and enhanced ergonomic and safety features.

The use of polymer frame reinforced with molded steel inserts has been retained. This allows the pistol to remain extremely light weight while still capable of enduring lengthy rapid fire sessions. The mounting Picatinny rail allows for the rapid deployment of tactical devices and aftermarket accessories. The XD trigger-mounted safety coupled with cocked/de-cocked striker and loaded chamber indicator has also been included. Finally, the traditional Springfield grip safety is also in place. Now the XDS pistol will allow the possibility of firing only when the grip safety lever has been depressed.

The XDS offers major ergonomic changes in its design. Superior design features give the XDS capabilities that make it far easy and comfortable to fire. Given the XDS has the least bulky frame in the niche coupled with a highly customizable grip the XDS is geared to remain the dutiful concealed carry weapon of choice.

The first ergonomic change is the Picatinny Rail System. A new single position rail readily accepts lights, laser and other aftermarket pistol accessories. XDS is one of the only polymer pistols in its size-range to offer such capabilities.

The slide above the rail features a snag free low profile sight system. The sight system features a sleek fiber optic front sight and an adjustable rear sight. The design of the sight system makes it both holster friendly and allows for rapid acquisition and tracking of the target. The shots now can be on target even during rapid firing sessions.

Underneath the sigh system is the XDS slide and its deep serrations. The serrations on the XDS are both functional and a cause for stylish attractiveness of the pistol. The slightly rounded design of the serrations further the snag-freeness for conceal carry. The whole slide has been treated with a Melonite finish to increase strength as well as to make the pistol corrosion resistant. When needed, the XDS cannon will be at your service as swiftly as you can possibly call it to action.

Moving further ahead of the rail, we have the snag free trigger guard housing the Springfield's Short Reset Trigger. The trigger features a short travel coupled with an even shorter trigger reset. This greatly helps in keeping up with the target while allowing for quicker and more accurate follow-up shots. The trigger system features the Ultra Safety Assurance (USA) guards against accidental discharge. Even if the pistol drops from a height or receives strong jolts, a mechanism will lock the trigger in place until direct rearward pressure is applied.

The Springfield XDS adopts several safety features. To begin with, XDS incorporates the traditional Springfield 'Grip Safety'. You're XDS cannot possibly misfire unless you completely and firmly grasp the pistol. This has been accentuated by the 'all terrain' Secure Grip Texture. The texture has been enhanced from the earlier XDM versions. The texture exerts a proper grip vertically, horizontally and torsionally.
